A centrifugal pump unit (1) with a centrifugal pump (2) and a canned magnetic coupling (3), in which an external rotary part has an outer magnet holder (4) and an intermediate shaft (5), which is held, preferably by means of rolling-contact bearings (6, 7), in a bearing holder (9) connected to the pump housing (10), has between the external rotary part and the bearing holder (9) a fail-safe shaft seal (26). The fail-safe shaft seal (26) runs concentrically with respect to the running axis (29) on the pump side in front of the bearings (6, 7) and, in the event of failure, consequently also protects the bearing region from the ingress of pumped fluid (Fig. 1). <IMAGE>
