An optical fibre guide (14) is arranged on the upper edge (11) of a side window pane (10) of a motor vehicle. When an arm (21) rests on the pane (10) during the closing operation, that is to say there is a danger of pinching, the fibre guide (14) is squeezed or pressed. The radiation passing through the fibre guide (14) is thereby reduced. By means of a threshold switch (22), this reduction of the radiation can be detected and the drive of the side window pane (10) stopped immediately. The production costs of the fibre guide (14) are very low, and simple evaluation electronics can be used.
