A device for the vertical adjustment of a motor-vehicle seat contains a gear reduction mechanism between the vehicle floor and the seat frame. The gear reduction mechanism comprises an internal gear, an external gear and an eccentric shaft on which the internal and external gears are mounted in order to change the meshing between the two gears to allow the height of the seat to be adjusted relative to the vehicle floor.
