PRETREATMENT FOR ANALYSIS OF DIBUTYL PHOSPHATE IN RADIOACTIVE ELEMENT-CONTAINING TBP ORGANIC SOLVENT

PURPOSE:To permit analysis of dibutyl phosphate (DBP) in a deteriorated tributyl phosphate (TBP) solvent by dissolving a solvent once in chloroform, then bringing the chloroform soln. into contact with an aq. sodium hydroxide soln. CONSTITUTION:After the org. solvent is once dissolved in the chloroform, the chloroform soln. is brought into contact with the aq. sodium hydroxide soln. to extract DBP and monobutyl phosphate (MBP) in said aq. soln. A zirconium nitrate soln. contg. Ar at the molar ratio 10 times the molar ratio of the DBP contained in the extracted liquid is added to said liquid in the co-presence of free nitric acid of >=3N. The formed Zr-DBP complex is then extracted in chloroform. The DBP in the deteriorated TBP solvent is accurately and efficiently analyzed in the above-mentioned manner.
