In the process for rapidly removing H2S from liquid sulphur, which H2S is either dissolved in the liquid sulphur or combined in the form of hydrogen polysulphide, a catalyst system 10, which is obtained by combining one or more basic compounds and one or more surface-active agents, or which is composed of one or more basic surface- active agents, is added to the liquid sulphur 9. The total mass is maintained in a state which leads to the H2S being removed from the liquid sulphur, which is present in the processing container 1, by means of the liquid sulphur being kept in motion, for example by means of stirring 11 or by means of spraying 12 liquid sulphur, in combination with the open surface 17 of the liquid sulphur being subjected to overflushing with a stream of an inert gas 7, 8. The catalyst system substantially decreases the duration of the treatment for reducing the H2S content below a desired limit value. <IMAGE>
