PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device in which occurrence of halation in peripheral areas of displayed images is prevented without fail, and image display of superior brightness and superior contrast is obtained. SOLUTION: By forming a carbon film MEC on the rear face of an anode ADE in order to reduce re-entry of secondary electrons that are generated when the electron beam collides into the anode ADE, secondary electrons become hard to be emitted from the anode ADE, even when the primary electrons collide against the anode ADE, and a minute amount of the secondary electrons emitted is mainly composed of low energy electrons which are scattered and become hard to re-enter the anode ADE.
