CHARACTER STRING INPUT DEVICE

PURPOSE:To simplify the indication of a character string by providing a means which identifies the position indicated with a co-ordinate input device with a specified area and a means which regards the indication of a character string input, which is continuously and newly made to start, as a continuation indication and identifies an input object character string when the indication is completed in the position corresponding to the specified area. CONSTITUTION:On the surface of the screen of a display device 2 a transparent co-ordinate input device 3 is superposed, where the co-ordinate can be inputted by touching it with a pen. By monitoring the position of the pen, in a position detection part 4 a character identification part 5 identifies a indicated character according to the co-ordinate information and the identified characters are transmitted to a character string generation part 6 one after another to compose a character string. On the right side of each line, a continuation indication area for one character is provided and if the pen enters the area a specified area identification part 8 decides it as a renewal indication to inform it a continuation process request part 9 so as to request a continuation process to the character string generation part 6, so that the character string generation part 6 can keep the character stings generated till then. Thus by connecting the character string of the next line to the character string of the former line, one word can be obtained.
