A single cylinder type switching valve to be used as a mixer tap for expelling, stopping or mixing hot and cold water, comprises a cylinder having inlets (2,3) for hot and cold water located in a smooth guide sliding surface (4), a smooth sliding surface (10) opposed to the smooth guide sliding surface (4), a switching valve (9) provided with switching inlets (11,12) is slidably provided in the axial direction of the cylinder (1) and a mixture valve (17) for opening and closing the switching inlets (11,12). Furthermore the single cylinder type switching valve is provided with a watertight structure surrounding the openings of the inlets (2,3) and which is composed of a packing member (21) made of an elastic material and a guide plate member (5) made of a high hardness material.
