A method of combating fungi and bacteria in agriculture comprising applying to a plant, to seed of a plant, or to the locus of the plant or seed a thiophene derivative represented by general formula : <CHEM> wherein R2 and R2 each represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms and X represents a methylene group or an oxygen atom, or an acid addition salt thereof.
