PRETREATMENT FOR ANALYSIS OF DIBUTYL PHOSPHATE IN RADIOACTIVE ELEMENT-CONTAINING AQUEOUS NITRATE SOLUTION

PURPOSE:To obtain DBP extraction rate of 100% with one time of operation by adding a zirconium nitrate soln. contg. Zr at the molar ratio 10 times the molar ratio of the dibutyl phosphate (DBP) contained in a U, Pu-contg. aq. nitrate soln. in the co-presence of free nitric of >=3N acid to said aq. soln. CONSTITUTION:The zirconium nitrate soln. contg. Zr at the molar ratio 10 times the molar ratio of the DBP contained in the U, Pu-contg. aq. nitrate soln. is added to said aq. soln. in the co-presence of free nitric acid of >=3N. The formed zirconium-DBP complex is then extracted into chloroform. The extracted liquid can be subjected as it is to a liquid chromatographic analysis. The extracted liquid is brought into contact with an aq. sodium hydroxide soln. to reverse extract the DBP as sodium-DBP and Zr(OH)4 is removed from the aq. soln., then the soln. is used as a sample in the case of subjecting the above-mentioned liquid to ion chromatography. Approximately DBP extraction rate of 100% is obtd. in the above-mentioned manner by one time of the extraction operation.
