PURPOSE:To obtain an engine which can easily gain medium and low speed torque by forming, in the form of a bugle, the central side of a swirl chamber from the axis of a communication hole which connects the swirl chamber and a main combustion chamber to each other. CONSTITUTION:If the side of a communication hole 3, in its cross section, opposite to a tangent to a combustion chamber 1 is formed in a circular form 3a, a swirl can be generated by means of compressed air passing through the communication hole 3 after said compressed air being pushed into the swirl chamber 1 from a main combustion chamber 7 by rise of a piston, in a compression stroke. In this way, the swirl of low and medium speed gets stronger than before and formation of mixture is improved. And combustion gas is smoothly injected into the main combustion chamber from the swirl chamber and smoothly pushes down the piston. Accordingly, medium and low speed torque can be easily obtained.
