PURPOSE:To prevent deterioration in the picture quality in the electronic shutter mode by transferring pulses while the phase of the transfer pulses having plural phases to two transfer sections so as to store an undesired signal charge thereby increasing the maximum transfer charge quantity of the undesired signal charge being a component of a fogged reproduced picture. CONSTITUTION:Lots of photoelectric conversion sections 1 are connected to a vertical transfer section 2 at each column and a signal charge detection section 4 is connected to each transfer section 2 via a horizontal transfer section 3. Moreover, an undesired signal charge being a component of a fogged reproducing picture is discharged to the output section 5 via the section 2 to prevent the transfer to the section 4 to which a normal signal charge is transferred. Then in applying vertical transfer pulses phiV1-phiV4 to plural transfer electrodes 18, the pulses phiV1-phiV4 are fed selectively to a 1st, 2nd and 3rd transfer sections I, II and III at the lower side of the electrode 18 at times t1-t4 to feed the charge 17 to the other transfer section thereby improving the discharge capability of the undesired signal charge in the electronic shutter mode. |
