A technique of imaging an object in a short imaging time and measuring the three-dimensional shape and the surface color of the object. To measure the three-dimensional shape of the object, a CCD is used to image the object. From the imaging result, pixel thinning of at least the effective area of the whole image showing the object is performed. A pixel-thinned image formed by the pixel thinning is extracted. The three-dimensional shape of the object is measured by using the pixel-thinned image. To measure the surface color of the same object, a CCD is used to image the object consecutively to the imaging for the three-dimensional shape measurement. From the imaging results, a pixel-nonthinned image formed by not pixel-thinning at least the effective area or by pixel-thinning at least the effective area so that the final number of pixels is larger than the number of pixels of the pixel -thinned image is extracted. The surface color of the object is measured by using the pixel-nonthinned image. |
