PURPOSE:To obtain the titled fiber-reinforced composite member in which characteristics in respective composite parts vary according to functions required of the parts, by filling a matrix metal with two kinds of inorganic fiber compacts mutually independent and dissimilar in characteristics to each other into a composite state. CONSTITUTION:A piston P for engines in which Al-Si alloy such as AC8B, etc., is used as matrix is equipped with a head part 1, a ring land part 2, and a skirt part 3. The matrix 6 of the piston F is filled with a primary fiber compact 4 in the head part 1 and the ring land part 2, and also filled with a secondary fiber compact 5 in the skirt part 3, respectively, by means of high-pressure solidification casting into a composite state. In this case, the compact 4 maintains strength and inhibit thermal expansion in the head part 1 and the ring land part 2 to be exposed to high temp. and heavy load. Further, the compact 5 inhibits thermal expansion in the skirt part 3 to be in sliding contact with a cylinder, and also improves the wear resistance and scuffing resistance of the above part 3. |
