PURPOSE:To enable accurate measurement of a particle size distribution, even when the intensity of light in a measuring field of view is not uniform, by computing the particle size distribution from a distribution of scattered light pulse height measured considering a distribution of light intensity within the measuring field of view. CONSTITUTION:A lens 5 and a prism 6 are so arranged that light of a light source 1 is inputted into an optical fiber 3 with a lens 2 and introduced near a measuring position to form an image of a slit 4 at a point P. With such an arrangement, a measuring field of view is formed as regulated by images of slits 4 and 8 to enable the measuring of scattered lights from particles within the field of view. Light passing through the slit 8 is applied to a pulse height analyzer 13 through an optical fiber 10, an photoelectric multiplier tube 11 and an amplifier 12 by way of a lens 9 to determine a distribution of scattered light pulse height. An arithmetic unit 14 converts the results into a particle size distribution by a specified computation and outputted to a display device 15 and this enables the measuring of the particle size distribution at a high accuracy. |
