PURPOSE:To enable a vehicle to be more comfortable to ride in through preventing a piston from striking the bottom when the piston is in its compression side operation by providing a control tube to be engaged with an inner tube, and then providing an orifice on the wall surface of the inner tube which overlaps the control tube when the piston is in its compression side operation. CONSTITUTION:A control tube 3 is provided in such a manner that it is engaged with an inner tube 2, and it is opposite to the inner tube 2 from the upper end part of an outer tube 1. An orifice 5 is provided in a fixed position on the wall surface of the inner tube 2 which overlaps the control tube 3 when the piston is in its compression side operation. Thereby, when the piston 12 is in its compression side stroke, both the rate of pressure build-up within the control tube 3 and the damping force due to the outflow resistance of the air flowing outside change upwards over two stages. Therefore, when the piston is in its compression side stroke, the spring reaction force and the damping force increase rapidly so that the piston is prevented from striking the bottom, and by way of tilting the shock absorber, the spring characteristics and the damping force characteristics are adjusted so as to enable the vehicle to be more comfortable to ride in. |
