Personnel identification fingerprint method - using laser scan of fingerprint to determine salient features for comparison with pre-recorded digital data

The identification procedure operates by scanning the fingerprint of an individual in three dimensions and comparing the image with pre-recorded reference data held on an electromagnetic medium. The three-dimensional scanning is performed by a laser which is swept across the fingerprint to determine its characteristics. The scanned data is then compared to characteristics for that individual held as digital data on a suitable medium. The digital data may be incorporated in an identity card carried by the individual. USE/ADVANTAGE - Increased reliability of identification of individual to improve access control to locations or services.
