PURPOSE:To obtain a pharmaceutical composition having selective cerebral cell protecting action, by using a specific piperazine derivative as an active component. CONSTITUTION:A compound of formula (R<1> is H or lower alkyl; R<2> is OH, aralkyloxy, 1-5C alkoxy or 3-5C alkenyloxy; R<3> is H, aralkyloxy, 1-5C alkoxy or 3-5C alkenyloxy; R<4> is H or 1-5C alkoxy) [e.g. 1-(3,4- dimethoxyphenyl)-2-(4-diphenylmethylpiperazinyl)etha-nol] is used as an active component of the present composition. The compound is administered usually at a rate of 0.5-100mg/day for injection and 5-1,000mg/day for oral administration for adults. |
