A device for temperature-dependent control of the return of the excess fuel from a diesel injection pump (1) is described with a control valve (7) which, as a function of the temperature of the fuel, connects a return line (6), returning the excess fuel from the injection pump, either to an outlet line (8) leading to a fuel tank (4) or to a feed line (2) leading by way of a filter (3) to the injection pump (1). In order to reliably prevent clogging of the filter due to the formation of paraffin wax occurring in the fuel at low temperatures, it is proposed that the control valve (7) be controllable as a function of the fuel temperature prevailing in the feedline (2) downstream of the point of addition of the excess fuel. For this purpose it is proposed that the control valve have a control piston (12), which can be acted upon by a differential pressure, connectable as a function of the fuel temperature. It is proposed that at least one control valve (10) be usefully provided with a bimetal element (11) in thermal contact with the fuel flowing through the feedline (2), which element connects at least one pressure admission chamber (15, 17), assigned to the control piston (12), to the feedline (2) as a function of the temperature (Figure 1). <IMAGE>
