The apparatus comprises at least one conveying chain (1) which is guided with a vertically ascending and descending strand about two return wheels (2). Attached to the conveying chain (1) are carrying arms (4), whose ends (7) which point away from the conveying chain (1) have, via joints, carrying elements for plate-shaped unit loads (10).
