The invention relates to a process for the closing of bags to form a free bag end, and to a device for carrying out this process, and is intended for designing the free bag end in such a way that its appearance is not only improved, but, above all, acquires a form effective for advertising. For this purpose, it is proposed, according to the invention, to subject the bag, after filling, to a folding at a distance from its free end and subsequently to close it in the region of the folding point, in such a way as to produce a fan-shaped free bag end which can be provided with an advertising imprint or the like (Figure 3). <IMAGE>
