Clamping devices for forgings on forging manipulators are provided with two or more tong arms and clamping jaws connected pivotably to these, the tongs being closed by actuating means. The invention relates to clamping devices with four tong arms arranged in pairs in two intersecting planes, these arms being movable in pairs (5x, 5y) in different ways independently of one another, making it possible to clamp even forgings which have different dimensions in intersecting planes. A compact, space-saving construction of the clamping device is achieved according to the invention by the fact that the pistons (46, 47) are arranged axially in series in opposition to the actuating means of the pairs (5x, 5y) of tongs, the piston (47) further away from the bearing head (3) of the tong arms (5x, 5y) being provided with a piston rod (40), in particular a hollow piston rod, through which the piston (46) nearer to the bearing head (3) passes together with its associated hollow piston rod (39) and the head piece (wedges 31) acting on the tong arms (5x) of the associated pair. A particularly advantageous design of the clamping device consists in that the bearing head (3) has a central opening in which the free end of the piston rod (40) connected to the piston (47) further away from the bearing head (3) is guided in axial movable fashion. <IMAGE>
