The chuck (1) has chuck jaws (8) and a locking body (13) which are adjustable for the reliable chucking of cylindrical or grooved shanks (9). By means of an operating member (25) which is displaceably mounted in a passage opening (24) of the chuck body (2) and is supported on an adjusting curve of a chuck jaw (8), the chuck sleeve (14) for the chuck jaws (8) or the adjusting ring (19) for the locking body (13) can be alternatively secured. To this end, the operating member (25) can be brought into engagement in recesses (32) on the chuck sleeve (14) or on the adjusting ring (19). <IMAGE>
