To convert the frame rate of television signals, the television signal to be converted is supplied in parallel to a multiplicity of spatio/temporal filters (F1 to Fn) having different motion-adapted filter characteristics. Each filter supplies a motion-adapted filter and frame-rate-adapted television signal and a control signal for assessing the instantaneous adaptation of the filter. The control signals of all the filters are used for determining and selecting the best-adapted filter output signal.
