PURPOSE:To enable optical recording using semiconductor laser beams by projecting ultraviolet rays on the recording layer containing a diacetylene derivative, then, projecting infrared rays of specified wavelength to change the color at the projected area. CONSTITUTION:The recording layer is composed of the monomolecular film or built-up molecular film of the diacetylene derivative, such as a compound represented by formula I, and a layer made of a squarilium dye, such as compounds represented by formula II. In these formulae, X is a hydrophilic group; each of (m), (n) is an integer; each of A<1> and A<2> is a substituent having an aromatic ring or a hetero ring; M<+> is H<+>, Na<+>, NH4<+> or the like. The optical recording in accordance with input information is obtained by uniformly projecting the whole surface of this recording layer with ultraviolet rays to polymerize the almost colorless diacetylene derivative and to convert it irreversibly into a blue color, and then, projecting the infrared laser beams of 800-900nm wavelength in accordance with the input information to heat the dye of formula II and, at the same time, said blue polymer, too, and to irreversibly discolor it into red. |
