PURPOSE:To maintain a surface roughness for a long period and to improve a productivity by approximating a visual shape of chrome plating layer with a limited thickness on a base material surface of a rolling roll with a limited mean roughness and nearly equalizing the mean roughness of the surface of chrome plating layer to the surface of the base material. CONSTITUTION:The surface of the base material made of a nickel-chrome- molybdenum steel is worked by an electric discharge machining and finished in its mean surface roughness Ra in a range of 0.01-10mum. Then the chrome layer possessed of the thickness by >=5mum to <20mum is plated. And then, the microscopic shape of the outer surface of the chrome plating layer is approximated to the mean roughness Ra of the outer surface of the roll base material, and the mean roughness of the outer surface of the chrome plating layer is equalized nearly within the limit of the mean roughness Ra of the roll base material. At this time, if the thickness of the chrome plating layer is <5mum, the wear proof property become insufficient and when it is >=20mum, the plating layer is apt to exfoliate and a reproducing of the surface conditions of the roll base material becomes difficult. |
