<p>The present invention relates to an electronic device which makes it possible to perform accurately the process of positioning a machine-tool tool. The positioning process is carried out in the dynamic condition of the machine, the cutting tool itself being used as an integral part of the device. As a consequence, all the elements required for the machining remain in place before and after the centring. The device exploits the variation in electrical resistance between a first current path between the spindle and the frame of the machine, via the rolling bearings or bearings supporting the spindle, and a second path, via the tool and the workpiece when one comes into contact with the other, in order thus to determine a reference position of the tool flush against the workpiece.
