PURPOSE:To achieve early finding of an abnormal condition in an electrophotographic recording part and efficient maintenance, by reading printing data outputted from a printer onto a printing paper, as image data by an image scanner, comparing the image data with original picture data, and quantitizing the conditions of the electrophotographic recording part by calculations based on the result of comparison. CONSTITUTION:A one-page amount of image data read by an image scanner part 10 are developed as dot pattern data into a picture memory 13 in a printer part 11 through an interface part 12. A CPU 14 calculates the number, area, density and the like of abnormal dot groups from the developed data, and infers the cause of the generation of the abnormal dots (flaws in a photosensitive drum, deficiency of a toner, deficiency of a carrier, defective fixation, insufficient cleaner functions, insufficient electrification, etc.) by evaluating the calculated values in combination with information from an electrophotographic recording part 16. Then, the CPU 14 displays the inferred cause at a display function 15, and performs a recovery operation for the recording part 16. |
