The present invention relates to homogeneous recombinant human interferon fragments having 6 to 11 amino acids deleted at the C-terminus as compared to a full-length mature recombinant human immune interferon, to replicable microbial expression vehicles comprising a nucleotide sequence encoding a recombinant human immune interferon fragment and to microorganisms transformed with such an expression vehicle. Furthermore, the invention provides processes for the preparation of the homogeneous recombinant human immune interferon fragments and the microorganisms mentioned above. In addition, the invention relates to pharmaceutical compositions containing said interferon fragments and to the use of these recombinant immune interferon fragments and pharmaceutical compositions for the treatment of various disease states.
