Pressure swing adsorption process for air separation

In the separation of air and other gas separations which use fluctuating pressure adsorption technology, reduced cycle times are achieved through an advantageous combination of simultaneous operations or treatment stages. The gas released after co-current depressurisation from a higher adsorption pressure pressure is simultaneously used to equalise pressure and for purging purposes. Co-current depressurisation is also performed at an intermediate pressure, while countercurrent depressurisation is performed simultaneously at the opposite end of the bed which is depressurised to its lower desorption pressure.
