The present method, which can be implemented in a machine with a rotating drum 1a, comprises using a granulate 2, preferably pumice, impregnated with a liquid bleaching agent, which is tumbled together with the dry textile or the dry garments 3 in the drum for a predetermined interval in order to produce the desired wearing or rubbing effect on the fibres; the duration of the dry tumbling depends ultimately on the required mechanical strength and the desired colour of the faded textile.
