PURPOSE:To make it possible to make a require space smaller by transmitting the rotation of an engine output shaft through mechanically-direct coupling, at the top-gear stage of an automatic transmission mechanism. CONSTITUTION:The first clutch C1 being engaged in the advance range excepting the top-gear stage is coupled to a turbine 2b, and the third clutch C0 in the state of being engaged at the top-gear stage is coupled to an impeller 2a. An automatic transmission mechanism 9, when operated at the top-gear stage, will automatically come into the direct coupling state without the intermediary of a torque converter, requiring no special lock-up clutch. Therefore, the axial dimension of an automatic transmission gear 10 can be shortened so as to meet the trend a smaller vehicle loading space due to F.F. arrangement and so on.
