1422294 Polysaccharide synthesis by saccharide condensation PFIZER Inc 16 July 1974 [5 April 1974] 31544/74 Heading C3U A process for preparing polysaccharides and polysaccharide derivatives comprises combining in aqueous solution glucose, maltose or a mixture thereof with up to 10 mole per cent based on total sugar of a food-acceptable polycarboxylic acid catalyst and optionally from 5- 20% based on the weight of total reactants of a food acceptable polyol selected from sorbitol, glycerol, erythritol, xylitol, mannitol and galactitol, dehydrating the solution at below atmospheric pressure to an essentially anhydrous syrup and then polycondensing at 150- 300‹ C. while removing evaporated water, the polycondensation being halted before pyrolysis occurs. Preferred acid catalysts include citric, fumaric, tartaric, malic, succinic or adipic acids. The preferred polyol is sorbitol. |
