PURPOSE:To prevent a ferrule and an optical fiber from being damaged due to melting heat at the time of welding the ferrule for integrating an optical semiconductor element with the fiber in good bondability by providing an insulating air gap between a part in contact with a slide ring of a metal cylinder and a ceramic capillary. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber 7 protected by a ferrule 8 made of a metal cylinder 8a and a ceramic capillary 8b contained by the cylinder 8a is secured to one end of a coaxial support 3 which places an optical semiconductor element 6 and a coupling lens 4 through a slide ring 11 opposed to the element 6. In such an optical semiconductor element module, an insulating air gap 12 is provided between a part contacted with the slide ring 11 of the cylinder 8a and the capillary 8b. For example, a photodetector is attached to the output end of the fiber 7, the element 6 is irradiated, the position of the ferrule 8 is so regulated that the optical intensity of the transmitted light exhibits the maximum value, a first welding and then a second welding are executed by a YAG laser to complete the module. |
