A panel (3) made of sound-absorbing material is supported one side by a shaped sheet (1) with strenghtening ribs which, combined with sheeting (2) facing the traffic, protects it from the weather. The sheeting on the traffic side slopes upwards and outwards and can be in steps, the slope preventing the penetration of rain, but allowing sound to be absorbed by the panel inside. Each step is formed by a downwardly sloping top sheet (5,6) and a base sheet (4) for support by another section underneath. ADVANTAGE - In addition to giving sound protection from a zone along the edge of a road or motorway, fumes, oil and dirt are excluded from the panel inside, so that its sound absorbing properties are not reduced.
