VACCINE FOR DOMESTIC FOWL COLIBACILLOSIS

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled vaccine comprising cells of Escherichia coli inactivated and then treated with ultrasonic waves. CONSTITUTION:Escherichia coli separated from the organ (e.g., air-sac) or feces of a fowl infected with colibacillosis is inactivated by a method using a chemical substance such as formalin, phenol, acetone or alcohol or by a method such as lyophilization or heat treatment. The inactivated Escherichia coli is subjected to an ultrasonic treatment to damage and destroy the cells of the Escherichia coli to give a vaccine for domestic fowl colibacillosis. The vaccine is sufficiently active even as it is, but it can be mixed with an adjuvant such as aluminum hydroxide gel or Freund's perfect adjuvant to improve the immunogenicity of the vaccine. It may be mixed and used in combination with other immune antigens or non-pathogenic antigens. The vaccine can be administered through various routes but is most preferably administered by a method of innoculating the vaccine into the anus of the domestic fowl because the method has no danger of generating a side-effect originated from bacterial toxicity.
