A fault diagnosis system for electronic devices in motor vehicles comprises: a plurality of electronic devices 1-4 in the motor vehicle which output their diagnosis results in accordance with two or more types of output signal systems; a vehicle-side diagnosis plug 25 to which signal lines 9-12 are connected for signals which designate the results of the fault diagnosis output by a plurality of electronic devices 1-4, and at least one control line 20 is connected for a signal which designates the output signal system for the electronic devices; and a plurality of test devices which determine the specific output signal system for the respective electronic devices 1-4 and indicate results which are determined on the basis of the diagnosis results transmitted by the respective electronic devices in accordance with the respective specific output signal system, each test device 7, 29 having a test device-side plug 6, 28 which can be connected to the vehicle-side diagnosis plug 25 in order to input the signal from each electronic device 1-4 and to conduct to the control line 20 a signal which determines the specific output signal system, it being possible in each case for one of the test device-side plugs 6, 28 of the plurality of test devices 7, 29 to be selectively connected to the vehicle-side diagnosis plug 25. <IMAGE>
