The invention relates to a "flexible/resilient protective fence" around masts for energy lines, signs, cableways and as crash barriers in bends and roads. The protective apparatus comprises meshing wire which is fastened at the top and bottom on resilient tensioning bands and tensioning rings. On existing masts, e.g. for power lines, ski lifts, etc., spacers with fitted leg springs are mounted and the tensioning rings are fastened thereon, as a result of which a protective apparatus which is resilient from the outside towards the inside is obtained. When using as a crash barrier in roads and bends, fastening posts comprising a rolled-steel profile are erected and the spacers with leg springs are then mounted thereon. In order that the tensioning bands can yield in a linear manner or from the inside, in bends, expansion loops have to be fastened on the shaped leg springs as a length-compensating means, and only then are the tensioning bands mounted on said loops. Owing to said flexible protective apparatus with a multi-stepped spring excursion, a body/vehicle is braked gently on impact and is not stopped "abruptly" as it would against a fixed object - wall.
