Prodn. of anode coke from hydrocarbon feeds rich in metals and sulphur

Prodn. of anode grade coke from a hydrocarbon feed contg. high levels of S and metals comprises: (i) feeding to a hydrocracking reactor; (ii) hydrocracking at about 1000-4000 psi, LHSV 0.2-3.0, H2/crude ratio 3000-40,000 SCF/B and 420-500 deg.C to give an effluent overhead; (iii) feeding the effluent to a hot separator; (iv) treating the effluent in the hot separator to give a light hydrocarbon stream aidn a slurry hydrocracked prod. residual (I); (v) feeding (I) to a separator; (vi) mixing a solvent with (I) in the separator; (vii) sepg. the solids from solvent-rich (I) so as to produce a clean upgraded hydrocracked solvent-rich residual with low S and metal content; and (viii) feeding the prod. of step (vii) to a coking drum, producing a mass of anode grade coke.
