<p>The loading and locking mechanism (10) includes a first cylindrical member (12) having a circumferential groove (20) therein having a first surface of revolution disposed at an angle with the axis of the first cylindrical member (12). Cooperating with the first cylindrical member (12) is a second cylindrical member (14) having an inside surface groove (32) with a second surface of revolution disposed at an angle with the axis of the second cylindrical member (14). A continuous toroidal spring (16) having canted coils is disposed in both first and second cylindrical member grooves (20, 32) for providing axial loading between the first and second cylindrical members. A rotary/reciprocating seal embodiment is also disclosed similar to the loading and locking mechanism.</p> |
