<p>A method and apparatus for forming a high energy coherent light beam such as of x-ray or gamma-ray energies. A coherent beam of light from a laser (14) is directed against a mirror (M) so as to be reflected from the mirror along a path which is coincident with the path of a stream of coherent alpha particles from a baser (12). The coherent light beam so directed into the incoming stream of alpha particles produces induced scattering of the bosons and backscattered light from this interaction passes in the same direction as the boson stream against the mirror (M) to pass in a coherent beam (15) through the mirror. This beam (15) is of the required high energy. Bending magnets (BM1, BM2) are arranged to deflect the stream of bosons firstly into alignment with the reflected light beam and secondly to deflect the stream of bosons out of such alignment before reaching the mirror.</p> |
