Biologically effective starting pulse formation of stimulation current devices for diagnosis and therapy

Neurostimulation for diagnostic and therapeutic measures in the fields of neurology, neurophysiology and neurosurgery has been used for more than ten years. Depending on the object to be achieved, the nerve tissue is supplied in all the cases with electrical stimulating pulses which excite it. Clinical studies have shown that, apart from specific stimulation spectra, the form of the stimulating pulse fed to the patient is decisive for the diagnostic or therapeutic result. This results in the criteria that were decisive for the present invention. With the circuit measures described and using commercially available electronic components, the desired pulse shape according to Fig. 1 is generated by a low-impedance short circuit of the patient's output in front of a coupling capacitor and after the stimulating pulse has taken place. <IMAGE>
