The invention relates to a process for producing blanks, for example of cuboidal shape, from inorganic solids, in particular basic material comprising calcareous and dolomitic sinter, for the production of refractory bricks. In the process the material is introduced in granular form into a press mould and subsequently pressed under the effect of pressure. In order, in the process, to produce good edge stability of the blank under cold processing can be achieved, it is proposed to coat the walls of the press mould and the press plunger with a binder and, during pressing, to press the binder into the edge layer of the body being pressed.
