A dental cleaning device, e.g. a toothbrush, has a brush head of a hard material, e.g. plastic, and flexible bristles fastened on the brush head, for example of plastic. In order to provide a more effective protection for the oral mucous membranes on use of the toothbrush, at least the brush head has, at least on its edges, a layer of a softened material, e.g. plastic.
