PURPOSE:To reduce the use amount of carrier gas, by providing a line for supplying hydrogen gas and the carrier gas thereof and a line for refluxing the carrier gas flowing out to an inlet side as the reducing means for a reforming catalyst in an oxidized state. CONSTITUTION:Since the hydrogen gas supplied into a reforming reaction tube 22 is entirely consumed in the reducing reaction during the advance of catalyst reducing reaction, only nitrogen gas flows out from the outlet of the reforming reaction tube 22 to be recirculated and refluxed through a reflux line 9. When a reforming catalyst 21 is sufficiently reduced, hydrogen gas begins to appear on the outlet side of the reforming reaction tube 22, and the hydrogen quantities in the gases flowing on the inlet and outlet sides of the reforming reaction tube 22 are measured and monitored by a gas analyser 12 in a reducing operation process to make it possible to ascertain the finish of reduction. When reducing operation is finished, valves 8, 10 are closed and valves 7, 11 are opened to prepare for the next methanol reforming operation. |
