A reaction vessel for use in the production a glass preform for an optical fiber which comprises a double wall construction having an outer wall and an inner wall made of an acid resistant metal material, the outer wall equipped with a cooling system, and a layer of an insulating material between the outer and inner walls, which reaction vessel has good corrosion resistance and does not thermally influence an apparatus or equipment installed around the reactor vessel.
