For the crease-free packaging of articles (7) in a weldable shrink foil, a lower foil (11) is laid straight over its area against the underside of the articles and a surface (16), preformed down onto the lower foil by means of a shaping shoulder (1) to form a rectangular tunnel (18), laid around the articles and, by means of folding edges (23, 26, 28) of lateral folding and guiding means (24, 27), the lateral excess of material of the upper foil is tautened, folded down and combined with the lower foil to form a weldable edge strip (41) in the region of the conveying plane or of the underside of the articles. <IMAGE>
