In order to produce a recess in a tunnel or shaft tube composed of tubbing rings, a closed frame (5) of tubbing sections (6, 7, 11, 12) which surrounds the recess (4) is provided in the tubbing support (1). The head and foot transoms (6 and 7) of the frame (5) are composed of individual tubbing sections (6/1-3 and 7/1-3 respectively) of normal ring width (8) and with end faces (9, 10), parallel to the tunnel axis, at the longitudinal joints. The posts (11, 12) of the frame (5) are formed by at least one tubbing section each conveniently spanning a tubbing ring sector (13) from the head transom (6) to the foot transom (7) and arranged in front of and behind the recess (4). The tubbing sections (6/1-n, 7/1-n, 11, 12) forming the frame (5) have means with which they can be connected to one another to form a closed, force-locking supporting structure transmitting bending moments, transverse forces and normal forces. After the bearing capacity of the frame is established, the recess (4) can be opened by dismantling the filling tubbing sections (20) provided inside the frame (5). <IMAGE>
