PURPOSE:To provide a highly efficient reaction layer, by putting a specific mixture of fine powders into a water vessel with a sheet placed on its bottom, causing the powders to float, depositing the powder by removing water, drying them and causing them to be subjected to a hot press. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of fine powders composed of a hydrophilic catalyst fine powder, a water-repellant carbon black and polytetrafluoroethylene which are mixed and stirred is put into water 4 in a filtering water vessel 3 having a filter paper 1 disposed on a porous bottom plate 2 and is floated in the water 4 so that the mixture of the fine powder is dispersed uniformly on the entire surface of the water 4. Then, the water is sucked through a discharge hole 6 at the lower end of the water vessel 3 to cause a fine powder 5 to deposit on the filter paper 1. Next, the filter paper 1 with the fine powder deposited thereon is dried and then the fine powder 5 on the filter paper 1 is pressed and combined by a hot press to form a reaction layer 7. With the arrangement, a highly efficient reaction layer for an electrode is manufactured. |
