<p>An article of manufacture comprises a porous substrate and a functional plastic component locally molded to one side of said substrate, with the plastic material of said component extending integrally through and impregnating the pores of said substrate at the locality of said component. Various embodiments are described for the article as well as for forming the same, obtainable by compressive deformation of a plastic pellet which is brought in contact with the substrate such as to create many point contacts each of which acts as a small area of energy focus for local initiation of progressively melting the pellet and forming the functional component, and methods for making the same.</p> |
